Delhi: Star opener Shubman Gill has been given the captaincy of the Indian Test team for the tour of England on Saturday, while the wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been appointed as the vice -captain.
25 -year -old Gill has become India’s fourth youngest Test captain. The players who captained him at a young age have been Sachin Tendulkar (23), Kapil Dev (24) and Ravi Shastri (25). The five -match Test series against England will begin in Leeds from 20 June.

On Pant’s vice-captain, Agarkar said, “Pant has been one of our best Test batsmen in the last four-five years. Wicketkeepers can test the game well. That is why he is Gill’s deputy.”
Sai Sudarshan and Arshdeep for the first time in Test team
Left -handed young batsman B Sai Sudarshan and left arm pacer Arshdeep Singh have got a place in the Test team for the first time.
Agarkar said, “Sai has not been selected on the basis of IPL performance. He has the right mentality and the ability to succeed at a high level. We were keeping an eye on him for some time.”
Karun Nair returns, Mohammed Shami out
Karun Nair has returned after 8 years in the team. He played the last Test in 2017 and even after scoring a triple century, he was soon dropped from the team.
At the same time, fast bowler Mohammed Shami was not selected in the team due to not being fit. Agarkar said, “His workload is not where it should be. We were hoping that he will be available, but unfortunately he is not fully fit right now.”
