Delhi: In India’s Test team, young batsman Sai Sudarshan has been selected for the upcoming tour of England. The 23 -year -old Sudarshan, while performing brilliantly in domestic cricket and Indian Premier League (IPL) this season, caught the attention of selectors. In IPL 2025, he played an important role in scoring 679 runs in 14 matches to bring Gujarat Titans (GT) to the playoffs.
Talent also shown in domestic cricket and county
Sai Sudarshan’s first class record has also been impressive. He has scored 1957 runs in 29 matches since his debut in 2022. Apart from this, he has also played for Surrey in county cricket for England in 2023 and 2024, where his average was around 35.
Sulakshan Kulkarni advised technical reform
Former Tamil Nadu coach Sulakshan Kulkarni, however, has expressed concern about Sudarshan. Talking to Ties of India, Kulkarni said that Sudarshan’s technology is not fully ready for situations like England. He said, “When I was the coach of Tamil Nadu, I saw Sudarshan playing on the seaming pitches, and his performance there was not special. He needs to work on his technology against swing balls.”
Worry over the habit of playing away from the body
Kulkarni further said that it is a habit of Sai Sudarshan that he tries to play the ball away from the body, which can prove to be dangerous in England conditions. “The secret of succeeding in England is to play the ball late and exactly in front of his eyes, under the nose. Sai will have to control some of his shots and play straight and close to the body.”
Improvement is necessary before the tour
The coach clearly said that Sai Sudarshan would have to work seriously on his technology before the tour of England so that he can perform well in Test cricket. The first Test match between India and England will start from June 20.
