Delhi: India took a 1-0 lead by defeating England by 7 wickets in the first match of the five-match T20I series. After this match played in Kolkata, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav praised his team. He said that the bowlers did an excellent job and the performance of the batsmen was absolutely brilliant.
Excellent performance by bowlers
Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and decided to bowl first, and his decision proved to be correct. Arshdeep Singh shocked England by taking two wickets in the first two overs. After this, Varun Chakraborty played an important role in breaking the middle order of England and ending their innings. England batted first and scored 132 runs, which India achieved by losing three wickets in just 12.5 overs. During this, Abhishek Sharma played a stormy inning of 79 runs.
Surya’s confidence in player performance
Suryakumar Yadav said, “We got the initial lead by winning the toss and then the bowlers implemented their plan properly. All the players played with great energy and the performance of the batsmen was truly unique. Hardik Pandya had done a good job bowling in South Africa too, so we went with an extra spinner. Everyone fielded well and the message from the coach was that we have to convert every half chance into an opportunity.”
Abhishek Sharma’s storm
Abhishek Sharma’s stormy innings did not give any chance to the England bowlers to make a comeback and victory was almost certain for India. However, Abhishek became the victim of Rashid, but after this Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma took the remaining responsibility and led India to victory. Now India has taken a 1-0 lead in the series, while England will try to make a comeback in the next match.
