Delhi: Former Indian cricket team captain Mohammad Azharuddin has demanded India to end all the relations of cricket with Pakistan after a horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. 26 innocent people died in this heart -wrenching attack, while many others were seriously injured.
Talking during an event at Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai, Azharuddin said that India should refuse to play against Pakistan not only from bilateral cricket, but also in international tournaments like ICC and Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
Significantly, recently India faced Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 held in Dubai.
Describing the Pahalgam attack as ‘very tragic’, Azharuddin said, “Cricket is a game that connects people, but when the country is immersed in deep sorrow and mourning, then cricket cannot be played.”
Azharuddin also clarified that it would not be practical to stop the IPL in the middle, but he appreciated the BCCI’s decision to pay homage to the martyrs by wearing black armband (black strip) to the martyrs’ and described it as a good example of support and solidarity.
