Delhi: Cricket has been confirmed to be included in the Asian Games to be held in Japan in 2026, which will be held in September-October next year. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) made this announcement on Tuesday.
A press note released on the official website of OCA said that cricket and mixed martial arts (MMA) will be included in the competition.
The press note said, “The latest development in finalizing the sports program was held at the 41st meeting of the Ainagoca Board of Directors at Nagoya City Hall on Monday, 28 April, where cricket and mixed martial arts were formally approved.”
Cricket will be held in Aichi province, but the exact place has not been decided yet. Let us know that T20 cricket has been included in the Olympic Games to be held in Los Angeles in 2028. This will be the first presence of cricket at the Olympics after the 1900 Paris Olympics, where Great Britain defeated France by 158 runs in two teams competition.
Remember that Cricket has been part of the Asian Games of 2010, 2014 and 2022 editions, where Bangladesh won gold, Afghanistan silver and Pakistan won bronze in the men’s competition in 2010. In the 2014 Incheon edition, Sri Lanka won gold, Afghanistan won silver and Bangladesh won bronze medal. At the same time, Pakistan won the gold medal in both editions in the women’s competition.
India participated in the 2022 edition and won a gold medal in the men’s cricket competition. The team consisted of T20 stars like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
