Delhi: After Gautam Gambhir became the head coach, the Indian team performed brilliantly in the limited overs format and won the ICC Champions Trophy title earlier this year, but the same success has not been seen in Test cricket. India’s performance in recent Test matches has been disappointing and Gambhir’s red ball has started raising questions about coaching in cricket.

After a disappointing defeat against New Zealand and Australia, India also started the Test series against England. Under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, the team lost by five wickets in Headingley.

Meanwhile, former opener Akash Chopra believes that there is a lot of pressure on Gambhir and if some important victories are not scored soon, the weight of criticism and expectations will increase further.

Chopra said that it would not be appropriate to blame Shubman, because he has recently taken the captaincy, but Gambhir cannot be saved from responsibility.

Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “This is the principle of Indian cricket, when it is good, everyone is proud, but it is natural to be criticized when the performance is bad. I will still have a little patience with Shubman Gill, because he is the new captain. He will take time to understand things.”

He further said, “The pressure on Gautam Gambhir is very high, and it is constantly increasing. If he looks at his Test record, he does not win much. He has won two matches against Bangladesh and one against Australia, but three from New Zealand, three from Australia and one to England.

Chopra said, “Performance in limited overs has been good, the team has shown a great game. But, there is a lot of pressure on this series in Test cricket, and there is a lot of pressure on this series. If this series does not go well, God does not do it, then a lot of questions will arise. I want to do good Indian cricket, but if England series is not good then surely questions will be raised.”
