Delhi: The five -time champion team of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has decided to give another young player a chance. The team has included 17 -year -old Ayush Mhatre in place of its captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Ruturaj has fractured in the elbow, due to which he is out of this season. In such a situation, CSK management once again handed over the captaincy of the team to MS Dhoni. But, the team needed another batsman, which will now be completed. After two weeks of trial, the team management has signed Ayush for the rest of the season’s matches.
Ayush’s performance in domestic cricket
Ayush has already done well in domestic cricket. He has played 9 first class matches for Mumbai, scoring two centuries and a half -century. He has also played seven matches in List A Cricket, in which a big innings of 181 runs against Nagaland. He is known for converting his debut into a big score. His 148 -run innings played against Saurashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy is a good example of this.
Ayush Mahatre’s journey
In an interview last year, Ayush said, “I started playing cricket at the age of 6, but real cricket started when I was 10 years old. In the morning I used to practice in Matunga, then went to school and then practiced in Churchgate. The housemates used to say to my maternal grandfather not to spoil my sleep, but today they also believe that he has benefited.”
The young cricketer coming from an ordinary family also told that his parents never allowed him to feel financially crisis. “If the bat was broken, I did not ask for a new demand. Even today my father travels with me in the local train. This is because if someone gets into a debate, he should handle it and I do not feel any negative thing, when I am going to bat.”
Ayush was part of the Mumbai team in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season, but when Indian captain Rohit Sharma returned, he had to sit out. After this Ayush shared a selfie and a cute little note with Rohit. He considers Rohit Sharma his ideal.
