Delhi: The South African team is going to play the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final for the first time, where it will compete with Australia at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London from 11 June. On this occasion, former explosive wicketkeeper batsman AB de Villiers has given an important advice to South African batsmen.
De Villiers said in a conversation with Star Sports, “Lords are a difficult field. The ball here keeps moving for a long time, and you never set. This will be my biggest advice, whether the first over or 67th, always respect the bowlers and play the game wisely.”
He also advised the fast bowlers to bowl full and directly, so that the swing and seam movement of the pitch can be taken full advantage.
South African team’s wonderful performance
So far, South Africa has played 18 Tests in Lord’s, out of which 6 have won, 8 defeat and 4 draws. In the 2023-25 WTC cycle, South Africa, led by captain Temba Bavuma, won seven consecutive matches, including excellent performance against West Indies, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. With this, the team topped the WTC table with 69.44 percent marks.
When and where were the WTC finals played?
The final was held in 2021 at Rose Bowl in Southampton and in 2023 at The Oval in London. Now this final of 2025 will be played at Lord’s, for which Reserve Day has also been kept on 16 June.
Now it has to be seen whether South Africa is able to become a Test champion for the first time on this historic occasion. Every eye will be on this match.
