Delhi: The Test career of Sri Lankan veteran batsman Dimuth Karunaratne ended on the third day of the second Test being played at Galle International Stadium (8 February, Saturday). He was dismissed for 14 runs in his final innings.
Karunaratne’s wicket fell off the first ball of the 13th over of Sri Lanka’s second innings. Australian spinner Matthew Kuhnemann bowled a flight ball outside the off stump, which Karunaratne tried to drive the cover. But the ball took the inner edge of his bat and went directly into the hands of the wicketkeeper.
The 36 -year -old veteran batsman scored 14 runs off 28 balls in this innings of his last Test. After his dismissal, Sri Lanka’s score was 33/2 in 12.1 overs.
While he was returning to the pavilion, Australian spinner Nathan Lion congratulated him and the entire Australian team clapped and honored him. On the way to the dressing room, Karunaratne accepted the greeting by raising the bat towards the audience. Fellow player Dinesh Chandimal also hugged him and bid farewell.
Karunaratne played 100 matches in his Test career and scored 7,222 runs at an average of 39.25. During this, he scored 16 centuries and 39 half -centuries.
