Delhi: In the second match of the India and Australia Test series, the speed of one ball of Mohammed Siraj was shown to be 181 km/hour. Seeing this, there was a stir on the internet. No one could believe how this happened.
‘Nitish proved himself on every occasion’, Indian coach praised the young batsman.
The ball was thrown at a speed of 181.6 km/h.
This incident happened in the 25th over of Australia’s innings. Mohammed Siraj bowled a short length ball outside the off stump, which Marnus Labuschagne sent towards backward point for a four. As soon as the ball ended, a speed of 181.6 km/h was seen on the big screen along with Siraj’s name. As soon as fans saw this figure, they started creating a flurry of memes on social media. However, this was the speed shown due to a technical error.
Why will there be a fine?
However, Siraj may be fined by ICC for another reason. In the same over, when Labuschagne walked away from the crease after getting distracted by a spectator looking at a “snake” made of beer bottles near the sight screen, Siraj threw the ball at him in anger. This ball neither hit the stumps nor the batsman, but this is wrong according to ICC rules.
What does the rule say?
ICC rules state, “It is a foul to throw the ball (or any other object) in a dangerous or inappropriate manner at or near any player, staff, umpire or any other person.”
What is the official record?
Talking about official records, Pakistan’s fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has the record of bowling the fastest ball in the history of cricket. He bowled the ball at a speed of 161.3 km/h (100.23 mph) against England in the 2003 ODI World Cup.
