Gavaskar remembers the days of war
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has also remembered those days. He told in a conversation on YouTube till sports, how was the condition in the country during the 1965 and 1971 war and how people used to deal with it.
Gavaskar said, “I still remember the time of 1965 today. I was 15-16 years old. When the fight was going on, the government told the people to cover the windows after burning the lamp in the evening. Put black cloth on them so that the lights do not come out. Those whose houses were towards the sea, they were told that they should use the least lights and the lamp. This is a mock drill or a real danger.
Gavaskar also mentioned the preparations of the people at that time. He said, “We were told not to go out unnecessarily. The shelters were built where the people lived and the siren had to go there as soon as it was.
There was also a cut in food in Gavaskar’s house
Sunil Gavaskar told that during the 1965 war, no Indian had fear in mind. People used to listen to all the news from All India Radio because at that time TV was in very few homes. He said, “Then the condition of the country was also not very good. Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri had appealed to the people to give up food for one time. My father also said in the house that we will cut food. Now we will not eat bread and rice at the same time. Either we will eat or rice. The government did not force it, but we made this rule by ourselves.”
