ENG vs IND: Jaspreet Bumrah made history with bat at Lord’s, joining Ravi Shastri’s club

Delhi: In the Lord’s Test, India lost by 22 runs against England, but Ravindra Jadeja and Jaspreet Bumrah’s performance in this match caught everyone’s attention. Even though India could not win this match, the combative innings of both the players will be remembered for a long time.

Jadeja scored an unbeaten 61 runs while batting patiently in extremely difficult circumstances. He held one end and kept India with the expectations of victory, scoring continuously.

On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah proved his usefulness in bowling as well as batting. He scored only 5 runs, facing 54 balls.

This batting of Bumrah was special in many ways. After Ravi Shastri, he has become the only number 10 batsman of India, who has played 50 or more balls in the fourth innings of the Test match. Shastri did this feat against New Zealand in the Wellington Test in 1981, when he scored 19 runs in 54 balls.

This is not the first time Bumrah has shown restraint with the bat. Earlier in 2021, he faced 64 balls in Lord’s Test, in which India won. At the same time, in the Test against England in Dharamshala in 2024, he also played 64 balls and played an important role in winning India. In this sense, this has been his third such innings in Lord’s Test, in which he played more than 50 balls.

Not only batting, Bumrah also created history in bowling. He has become the most wicket -taking Indian bowler against the hosts on the land of England. He has so far taken a total of 49 wickets in 19 innings in England and has overtaken veterans like Ishant Sharma (48 wickets), Kapil Dev (43 wickets) and Anil Kumble (36 wickets) in this list.
