Delhi: England fast bowler Chris Woakes suffered an injury on the first day of the fifth Test against India. This incident happened when he tried to stop Karun Nair’s boundary. While fielding, Vox dive and his shoulder was injured. The injury seemed serious, so he was immediately taken out of the field. Liam Dawson was replaced by him.

Atkinson updated on Vox’s injury

Fast bowler Gas Etkinson, who took wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurlel on the first day, said Vokes’ injuries did not seem much right. He hoped that Vox should recover soon and return.

Atkinson said in a post-day press conference, “I don’t know much, but the injury does not look good. This is the last match of the series and any player feels very bad. Hopefully it is not serious and he will be cured soon.”

In a conversation with BBC, Atkinson also said, “If Vox takes more participation in this match, it will be surprising for me.”

Chris Woakes has played all five matches of this Test series. He has taken 11 wickets so far. On the first day, he bowled 14 overs and also took the crucial wicket of KL Rahul. Had he not been injured, he might have taken more wickets. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to play again in this match.

On the other hand, India finished the first day’s game on a score of 204/6. Karun Nair is unbeaten on 52 runs, while Washington Sundar is supporting him by scoring 19 runs. Both have shared an important partnership of 51 runs and are trying to handle the team. For England, Etkinson and Josh Tung took two wickets each, while Vox took one wicket.

Now England will try to get India all out on the second day as soon as possible.
