Experienced batsman Joe Root is making a comeback in the ODI team. He last played for England in ODI during the 2023 World Cup. England, the 2019 World Cup winners, were eliminated from the 2023 World Cup at the group stage. The team won only three out of nine matches.
33-year-old Joe Root has played 171 ODIs so far, in which he has scored 6522 runs at an average of 47.60. This includes his 16 centuries and 39 half-centuries.
All-rounder Ben Stokes has not been included in the team as he is recovering from a hamstring injury suffered in the third Test match against New Zealand.
