Delhi: Former England batsman Mark Bachar believes that the team headed by Jose Butler does not have enough experience to play in the 50 -over format, so that he cannot be considered as a strong contender to win the ICC Champions Trophy starting on February 19. Since the 2023 ODI World Cup, England have won only four ODIs out of 14 and recently faced a 3–0 defeat against India, which was Brendon McCullum’s first series as a white-ball coach.

In the Champions Trophy, England will face Australia, Afghanistan and South Africa in the league stage – all three teams have defeated England during the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Talking on Wisden Cricket Weekly Podcast, Bachar said, β€œThe first idea in my mind during the first two ODIs came that how inexperienced our cricket is in the 50 -over format. The reason for this is that we do not play enough ODI matches. To maintain the speed and flow of the game, there is a need to play continuously, and we are behind in it. ”

He further said, “In the 50 -over format, the speed should be controlled according to the time. This is not just a game of playing fast, but it is necessary to play wisely. When to be aggressive and when to play carefully, this understanding comes only from playing more ODI matches. ”
