Delhi: Former England spinner Monty Panesar has expressed confidence in Shubman Gill that the new captain will bat more responsibly. Shubman has recently captained the Test team, as Rohit Sharma has retired from Test cricket. Shubman will be seen in the series for the first time in the series against England in the role of captain. Monty said that Shubman will take more responsibility and score good runs.
Gill’s test record
Shubman Gill has played 32 Test matches so far, in which he has scored 1,893 runs. He has 5 centuries and 7 half -centuries. However, his record in England is not so good. He has played 3 Test matches there, in which only 88 runs have been scored from his bat, and the highest score was 28. Therefore, this time Shubman will have a big responsibility to score runs in a difficult situation.
Monty hints on lack of experience
Monty Panesar also did that experienced players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have retired, it will benefit the England team. According to him, the Indian batsmen will not be able to face the difficult situation due to not being an experienced batsman. Monty questioned how the team would compete with a strong side like England if there is a shortage of experienced players.
