Delhi: Former England all -rounder Moin Ali has strongly criticized the current rules of ODI cricket. He believes that due to the rules made in favor of the batsmen, this format is losing its importance and has reached the verge of ending. He also warned that the number of players playing ‘Freelance’ in the T20 league is increasing, which is causing damage to international cricket.
In a conversation with TalkSport Cricket, Moin Ali said, “Except for the World Cup and Champions Trophy, ODI cricket is almost completely over. It has now become the worst format to play. ” He told that now it has become much easier for the batsmen to score. After the first powerplay, there were five fielders outside the circle, but now this number has come down to four. Also, the use of two new balls has increased difficulties for the bowlers.
Questioning the rules of ODI cricket, Moin Ali said, “It is a wrong rule to keep additional fielders after powerplay. For this reason, now players are scoring runs at an average of 60-70. ” He also said that the batsmen always have options to score runs. Giving the example, he said, “When you put a little pressure as a bowler, the batsman just plays the reverse-sweep and it becomes not just a run, but a four.”
According to Moin Ali, the future of ODI cricket is in danger. He suggested that if this format is to be saved, then the rules have to be changed. Otherwise, ODI cricket will gradually end and the dominance of the T20 league will increase.
Significantly, Moin Ali played 138 ODIs for England, in which he scored 2,355 runs and took 111 wickets. Apart from this, he scored more than 3,000 runs in 68 Tests and took more than 200 wickets. After retiring from international cricket in September last year, he will be seen playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the upcoming IPL.
