Delhi: The Indian team is ready to play the Test series of five matches against England, which will start from June 20. Prior to this series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that star batsman Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new captain of the Indian Test team, and he will start his Test captaincy journey with the tour of England.
After Gill’s appointment, many cricket experts reacted to this decision. Former Indian wicketkeeper batsman Robin Uthappa also praised the selectors and said that he has shown a distant thinking by making young players like Gill, captain.
Uthappa said in the show ‘Game Plan’ show of Star Sports, “This selection committee will have to give credit, because he has decided with a distant thinking. Shubman is just 24 or 25 years old. If he plays it properly, he can lead the Indian Test team for the next 10 years. It will be the best for Indian cricket, because he is a high quality batsman.”
He further said, “We have seen his captaincy developing only in the IPL from last year to this year. The intensity with which he worked, the decisions taken on the field and his comrades argued with the umpires, he set a great example of captaincy in every aspect.”
Gary Kirsten also reacted to Gill’s captaincy
Former South African opener and former India coach Gary Kirsten also gave his opinion on Shubman Gill being made the new captain of the Indian Test team.
He said, “He is going to be a great leader. He is a sensible cricketer, he has a good ability to understand the game. He understands his game deeply. He is very talented and also a good person. He has all the necessary qualities to become a great captain.”
