Delhi: The court has given its verdict in the case of embezzlement of Rs 1.25 crore in the Bank of Maharashtra branch located in Jolkheda village of Betul district of Madhya Pradesh in 2013. Four people have been convicted in this case, including Vinay Ojha, father of former cricketer Naman Ojha. He has been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 7 lakh.

What was the embezzlement case?

There was embezzlement of Rs 1.25 crore in the Bank of Maharashtra branch of Jolkheda village. The police had registered a case against six people in this matter. On Tuesday, the Additional Sessions Court of Multai gave its verdict in this case.

The main accused in this case is Abhishek Ratnam. Investigation revealed that the embezzlement was done using the passwords of bank officials. Prosecution lawyer Rajesh Sable said that during the investigation it was revealed that money was withdrawn through agents by creating fake accounts.

Punishment and fine for the culprits

The main accused Abhishek Ratnam has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 80 lakh. Vinay Ojha, the then assistant manager of the bank, who is Naman Ojha’s father, was given 7 years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 7 lakh. Apart from this, two other businessmen, Dhanraj Pawar and Lakhan Hingwe, were also sentenced to 7 years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 7 lakh each.

What happened to the charges against the cashier and manager?

During the investigation of this embezzlement, bank cashier Dinanath Rathore died. At the same time, branch manager trainee Nilesh Chatrole, whose password was used for embezzlement, was declared innocent.
