Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has suffered a major setback in the playoffs of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2025. Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated CSK by 4 wickets in the match played at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday. This season it was the eighth defeat of CSK, and now the team has reached the lowest position in the points table.
Chennai, batting first, gave a target of 190 runs, which Punjab achieved with two balls remaining. With this victory, Punjab’s playoff hopes have strengthened.
Chennai Super Kings started very poorly in the match. The team lost three wickets for 48 runs after the initial shaking. Subsequently, Sam Karan and Dewald Bravis (32 runs, 26 balls) tried to handle the innings by parting 78 runs. Karan played a bang of 88 runs in 47 balls with the help of 9 fours and 4 sixes, which went in vain.
However, when it seemed that CSK seemed to score a big score, then Yuzvendra Chahal made a strong comeback. He took 4 wickets for 32 runs, including a hat -trick. Due to his brilliant performance, CSK’s innings was reduced to 190 runs.
Even though Chennai’s team is struggling on the field, there is no decrease in the popularity of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Former Australian captain and geostar cricket analyst Aaron Finch said, “When Dhoni left the captaincy a few years ago, he might not have thought that he would have to face such a challenging situation again. This time CSK is not supporting the luck.”
He further said, “Dhoni is now 43 years old, he does not play much cricket, he comes only for the IPL. But whenever he lands on the field, every moment becomes special, when he comes out of the dressing room or gets into the field for batting, the noise that echoes in the stadium is incredible.”
Finch appealed to the cricket fans, saying, “As long as Dhoni is playing, every fan must go to the stadium once and see him playing live.”
