Rohit won the T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy 2025 under his captaincy.
Rohit Sharma, captain of the Indian ODI and Test cricket team, has given a big reaction on the creation of his own name at the historic Wankhede Stadium on 18 April. It is worth noting that India has won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy 2025 under his captaincy.
On the other hand, Rohit reacted on this big decision and quoted News18 as saying- taking a stand in his name is an unrealistic feeling, and I will always be grateful for it. You never know how long you will play, but getting this honor is something that I cannot even imagine.
Apart from Rohit Sharma at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has named each stand after former India’s Test captain Ajit Wadekar and former BCCI President Sharad Pawar. The decision to name the stand after these former players was taken in the annual general meeting (AGM) some time ago.
According to the proposal passed, Level 3 of Divecha Pavilion will now be named Rohit Sharma Stand, Grand Stand Level 3 will be named after former ICC chairman Sharad Pawar and Grand Stand Level 4 will be named after Wadekar.
Wadekar played 37 Tests and two ODIs for the Indian cricket team from 1966 to 1974. So at the same time, under his captaincy, India won a historic victory on the tour of England and West Indies in 1971. Wadekar died at the age of 77 in 2018.
On the other hand, MCA President Ajinkya Nayak said that today’s decisions show our deep respect for the pillars of Mumbai cricket and our determination to create a strong future.
