Delhi: Former head coach of Pakistan cricket team and veteran Pesar Jason Gilespi of Australia has said that he does not see any selfishness in the game of star batter Babar Azam and wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan. Gillyspi worked with the Pakistan team and during this time he described Babur and Rizwan as the player playing for the team.
Babur and Rizwan have been criticized for slow batting especially in T20 international cricket. For this reason, both were dropped from the T20 team for the tour of New Zealand.
In a conversation with Pakpation Dot Net, when Gillespie was asked if senior players are pressing the youth by batting slowly, he replied, “It seems to be on seeing from outside, but in my experience both Babur and Rizwan are the players playing for the team.”
Gilespi also said that in Pakistan cricket, players feel insecure about their place, so that they sometimes start playing to keep themselves in the team.
He further said, “I am not saying this to any one player, but in the Pakistan team, the players often worry that if they do not prove themselves by doing something different, then next time they will not get a chance in the team. That is why many times the players start playing for themselves.”
Gilspi said to exclude Babur and Rizwan
When Babur and Rizwan were excluded from the T20 team, Gillespi called it a “bold call”. They said,
“This is an interesting decision, because you know that these two players have done many best in T20. Yes, their batting has been slow on some occasions, but you have to keep in mind the situation and match situation.”
Former Pesar said, “These two are very experienced players and have the ability to mold their game according to the circumstances. It is a bold step to exclude two such quality players.”
Gillypi finally said that to understand the style of a player, one should also assess not from the figures, but also from their thinking and experience on the field.
