Delhi: Despite scoring a brilliant century in the first Test played between India and England, Yashasvi Jaiswal had to face a lot of criticism for his fielding. In the Test played in the headingley, Jaiswal left four easy catch. Along with him, Team India dropped a total of eight catches and India lost by five wickets in the match.
It is being said that due to the lapse in India’s fielding, there was a loss of about 250 runs, which could change the attitude of the match. However, unlike critics, former India fielding coach R Sridhar has supported Jaiswal. He described the circumstances of England as very challenging for the first player playing.
R Sridhar supported Jaiswal
Talking to Sportstar, Sridhar said, “It takes time to visit England for the first time and become a good fielder in slip. Practice is necessary, but it makes it difficult to catch the cold and Duke ball in the match.”
He said that fielding in grounds like Headingley and Oval is even more difficult. The slope and wind there spoils the rhythm of fielding. Even the England team left the catch. It is not only a matter of skill, but also depends on circumstances.
The former fielding coach said that Jaiswal is actually a great street fielder. He caught tremendous catch against Bangladesh in Kanpur. There have been just two bad matches – one in Melbourne and the other in Leeds.
Sridhar advised critics that he should understand the truth of the ground. It is easy to criticize the commentary box, but playing there is a different thing. He expressed confidence that in the next Test, Jaiswal will perform well in the bat as well as the bat.
