Delhi: Indian team veteran batsman and captain Rohit Sharma has shocked everyone by announcing his retirement from Test cricket. However, many cricket lovers including former cricketer Manoj Tiwari have expressed disappointment about the announcement of his retirement on social media. Tiwari believes that a great player should have got farewell with respect on the field.
Talking to Cricbuzz, Manoj Tiwari said, “If Rohit Sharma retired while playing the last Test on the ground, it would have been more emotional and suitable for everyone. His record as a Test captain has been excellent – 12 wins, 9 necklaces and 3 draws.”
The right -handed explosive opener has scored 4301 runs at an average of 40.57 with the help of 12 centuries and 18 half -centuries in 67 Tests.
Significantly, Rohit has already distanced away from T20 cricket and now he will be seen captaining only in ODI cricket. His record in ODIs is very impressive, where he has scored more than 11,000 runs and, including 32 centuries and 3 double centuries. At the same time, he led Team India in four ICC finals, out of which India won.
Manoj Tiwari appreciated Rohit’s leadership ability, saying, “He was a very popular captain among the players. The young players preferred to play under his leadership, and often shared this thing in his interview.”
Now that Rohit is away from Test cricket, discussions on who will be the next Test captain have intensified. Names like Jaspreet Bumrah, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are coming out. Rohit Sharma’s Test retirement is the end of an era in Indian cricket. But, his captaincy, batting and contribution will always be remembered.
