Delhi: Indian cricket team ICC World Test Championship (WTC) could not make it to the finals of 2025, after which a decisive match was played between South Africa and Australia in Lord’s ground. Now, while the next WTC cycle is about to begin, the final will be played in 2027. In such a situation, former opener and current commentator Akash Chopra has given an important suggestion to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He believes that not only India, but all cricket boards should pay more attention to pink ball test matches.
Day-Night Test matches started in 2015, but in today’s date only Australia plays them regularly. Akash Chopra says that India should also make these matches a part of their domestic cricket like Australia. In a video on his YouTube channel, he said that very few pink ball test matches are played in India and the board hesitates a little. He said that he wants India to play more and more day-night Test matches.
India has so far played only three domestic pink ball test matches, including the first against Bangladesh in 2019, the second against England in 2021 and the third against Sri Lanka in 2022. But, since then it seems that BCCI has dropped this format from its domestic Test series.
This advice of Akash Chopra is definitely considering. The BCCI has no shortage of resources and if they give a chance to the pink ball test once again, not only can Test cricket get new life, but the participation of the audience can also increase to a great extent. Now it will be seen whether the BCCI takes any concrete steps in this direction.
