Delhi: Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has responded to the cancellation of the much awaited match between India and Pakistan in the World Championship of Legends (WCL). He described this whole matter as “a difficult situation” and emphasized the importance of mutual respect and unity in the global sports.

Indo-Pak match canceled after terrorist attack

The match was to be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham, but it was canceled when some Indian cricketers refused to play. His objection came to light after the terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which tourists were targeted.

Brett Lee made a balanced statement

Brett Lee, who became part of Australia Champions team, said in the press conference, “This is a difficult question. But I will say that I like India too and Pakistan. Hopefully, hope that both countries respect each other. We have come here to play tournaments and are celebrating the game together with all the teams.”

The purpose of WCL was to increase harmony

The organizers of the tournament issued a statement saying that the Indo-Pak match was kept for the purpose of promoting mutual brotherhood. This thinking was inspired by the recent Indo-Pak volleyball match. But in view of the sentiments of India’s team and some players, the organizers decided to cancel the match. He also admitted that perhaps he could not understand the situation properly and apologized for this.

Shikhar Dhawan repeated the old decision

India Champions team captain Shikhar Dhawan made it clear that the decision not to play against Pakistan had already been taken. Sharing an email of May 11, he wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “The steps taken on May 11, I still stand on the same way. My country is everything for me and nothing is more than the country.”

India won the final last year

Significantly, the Bharat Champions team won the title of this tournament last year. In the final match, he won the trophy by defeating Pakistan by five wickets. Pakistan’s goal of 157 runs was easily achieved by India on the basis of brilliant batting.
