Delhi: After India’s poor performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the commotion in the dressing room of Team India has intensified. In such a situation, speculations about major changes in Indian cricket as early as 2025 have gained momentum. It is reported that the performance of head coach Gautam Gambhir will be reviewed after the Champions Trophy 2025.
According to media reports, a suggestion has come forward to have two different coaches for the Indian cricket team. There is talk of making VVS Laxman the coach in Test cricket. However, there are differences of opinion between former players and selectors on this. Former England spinner Monty Panesar supported having two coaches, while former selector Sunil Joshi opposed it.
Monty Panesar, who has taken 167 wickets in Tests and 24 wickets in ODIs for England, told The Times of India, “The workload on Gambhir is very high. He has recently become the coach, and this change can be challenging for the senior players. They may think that Gambhir was his teammate a few years ago and now he is teaching them the game by becoming a coach. Apart from this, Gambhir’s batting record in Australia and England is also not special.
Former chief selector of Team India, Sunil Joshi rejected this idea and said that no decision should be taken in haste. He said, “Accept defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Australia played better. We do not need to adopt the model of western countries. “Our system suits our players because most of the players play all three formats.”
Joshi also said that having two coaches can lead to differences in decisions in the team. He said, “The idea of playing cricket can be different when there are two coaches. “Even though they may be professionals, there is a 1% chance that they will question each other’s decisions.”
