Delhi: India is standing at the threshold of Test cricket, a new era, and in the meantime former wicketkeeper batsman Saba Karim has described Shubman Gill as the biggest candidate for the captaincy of the Test team.

During the conversation at Geihatstar’s ‘Follow the Blues – Selectors Meet’, Karim said that he saw a clear leadership in 25 -year -old Shubman Gill. Gill is already handling the responsibility of vice -captain in limited overs and has also captained India’s T20 team against Zimbabwe in 2024.

Karim said, “You have options like Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. But, at the beginning of the new WTC Chakra I would like to go with a young and talented captain – Shubman Gill.”

He also said that even though Gill is not yet fully established in the Test, his confidence and international experience makes him ready for this challenge. However, Karim also admitted that Gill has not been able to fully confirm his place in the Test team. In such a situation, handing over the captaincy to Gill will be an adventure, but visionary step for the selectors.

Meanwhile, the BCCI selection committee, which Ajit Agarkar is leading, will select the Test team for the tour of England on Saturday. Apart from Shubman Gill, the names of Rishabh Pant and Jaspreet Bumrah are also in discussion in the captaincy race.

It remains to be seen whether BCCI makes Gill the captain of the future Test team or rely on any experienced option.
