Delhi: Brisbane Cricket Ground, known as Gaba Stadium, will soon become history. Actually, this historic ground will be broken after 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Government of Queensland has announced that a new state -of -the -art stadium will be built at Victoria Park by demolishing Gaba.
The Gaba Stadium had long been facing challenges due to its old infrastructure and limited capacity. Earlier there was a plan to rebuild it, but it was canceled due to rising costs, now the government has decided to completely demolish it and create a new stadium, which will cost around 3.8 billion Australian dollars.
This decision of the government has got the support of Cricket Australia (CA) and Queensland cricket. The Gaba Stadium has been the main center of not only cricket but also the Australian Football League (AFL) and other sports. The new stadium will be prepared keeping all these games in mind.
History of Gaba Stadium
The Gaba Stadium was built in 1895 and has a seating capacity of 37,000 viewers. Its ground is 170.6 meters long and 149.9 meters wide. The stadium has two ends called Stanley Street and and Vulture Street &. Apart from cricket, games like rugby and Australian football are also organized here.
Indian team set a historic record in 2021
Gaba was considered the fort of the Australian cricket team, where no team was able to beat him in a Test match after 1988, but in January 2021, the Indian team demolished the fort. Under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane, India won a historic victory by defeating Australia by 3 wickets. In this match, Rishabh Pant scored an unbeaten 89* and the player of the match was made. Apart from him, Shubman Gill (91) and Cheteshwar Pujara also played important innings. After this victory, commentator Vivek Razdan’s word “broken Gaba Kahanda” settled in the hearts of Indian fans.
