Delhi: The Indian team is currently in trouble after losing the fourth test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. According to reports, the team’s head coach Gautam Gambhir wanted experienced batsman Cheteshwar Pujara to join the team, but the selectors rejected this suggestion.
Situation bad in dressing room
According to the report of The Indian Express, the situation in the Indian dressing room has worsened after losing the Melbourne Test. Angered by the poor performance of Gambhir players, he has criticized the team.
Pujara, who has played more than 100 Tests for India, was last seen in the World Test Championship final in 2023. India lost to Australia in that match, and Pujara was able to score only 14 and 27 runs. However, the Indian top order batsmen are struggling in the current series. In such a situation, a player like Pujara, who has a record of scoring 993 runs in 11 matches in Australia at an average of 47.28, could perhaps have helped the team.
Gambhir wanted Pujara’s return
It has also been revealed that even after winning the first Test in Perth, Gambhir had talked about the return of 36-year-old Saurashtra batsman Pujara. In the 2018-19 series, Pujara had scored 521 runs on 1258 balls and three years later in 2020-21, he once again became the backbone of Indian batting by scoring 271 runs on 928 balls. India had won both these series.
Pujara scored his 25th century in Ranji Trophy in October and converted it into his 18th first class double century. He made this record on behalf of Saurashtra against Chhattisgarh in Rajkot. With this achievement, he is fourth in the list of batsmen who have scored most first class double centuries, after Don Bradman (37), Wally Hammond (36) and Patsy Hendren (22).
