Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has won the title thrice in the Indian Premier League (IPL). KKR won the trophy for the first time in 2012 and second time in 2014 under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir, and his aggressive captaincy is considered to be the main reason for its success. Recently in 2024 also Kolkata won the IPL title. However, Gautam Gambhir has been accused of taking credit for making KKR the champion in 2024, even though he was the mentor of the team at that time. Umesh Yadav has given his reaction on this.

It is wrong to trust the words of others

Umesh Yadav while talking to Inside Sport said, “I have never heard an interview in which Gautam Gambhir took credit for making KKR the champion in 2014. I don’t get that much news, but I always believe what I see with my eyes and hear with my ears. It is wrong to trust the words of others.”

Umesh was part of the team in 2014 victory

Umesh Yadav played for KKR for 6 years and during this period he took 65 wickets in 67 matches. In 2014, when KKR achieved the honor of becoming champion, he was a part of that team. In that season he took 11 wickets in 12 matches.

Umesh has played IPL for 5 teams

If we talk about Umesh Yadav’s IPL career, he has played 148 matches so far. Playing for 5 different teams, he has taken a total of 144 wickets. In 2024, he played for Gujarat Titans, but could take only 8 wickets in 7 matches in the entire season. Sadly, he did not find any buyer in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
