Delhi: Star batsman Karun Nair, who won everyone’s hearts with his explosive performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, has not got a place in Team India for the ODI series against England and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Before selection, his average was 752, but after getting out early in the final match, this average came down to around 400. Despite this, the selectors did not include him in the team. Meanwhile, former legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar explained how Karun can get a place in the upcoming Test series against England.

Karun Nair scored 112 in Vijay Hazare Trophy before selection for Champions Trophy 2025.44163111112, 12288 And played brilliant innings of 27 runs. Nair, who scored a triple century for India in Test cricket, has been out of the team for the last 8 years. On this Sunil Gavaskar said that it was difficult for him to make a place in the team.

Speaking to Sports Tak, he said, “Where would he have been fitted? It is difficult to include him in place of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. KL Rahul is playing the role of second wicketkeeper batsman for the team and his performance in the 2023 World Cup was excellent. Shreyas Iyer has also shown good performance in ODIs. This is the reason why Karun Nair was not included in the team.”

However, Gavaskar advised Karun to perform consistently in the Ranji Trophy. He said, “If Karun Nair’s form in the Ranji Trophy continues like this, it will be difficult not to include him in the team for the upcoming Test tour of England.”

It is noteworthy that Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar also admitted that Karun Nair was a part of the selection plan, but it is not possible to fit everyone in the team.
