Delhi: As soon as star opener Shubman Gill took command of India’s Test team before the much awaited series against England, former cricketer Yograj Singh has praised his father and former India veteran batsman Yuvraj Singh behind the success of this young captain.

Talking to ANI, Yograj said, “The credit for the performance of Shubman Gill goes to his father and Yuvraj Singh. If Shubman Gill has become captain today and will remain for a long time, then Yuvraj Singh’s guidance has played an important role and will continue to be ahead.”

Former Indian player and Yuvraj’s father Yograj also highlighted that Yuvraj’s cricketing understanding has helped Gill develop both as a player and captain.

He further said, “It is a big thing for a player like Yuvraj Singh, the world’s biggest cricketing brain, in his shadow.”

Shubman Gill will now lead India’s team in Test cricket. Gill has become one of the youngest players to hold this position in recent years. Although he does not have the captaincy experience in red-ball cricket, he led India in the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe in 2024. Apart from this, he is also captaining Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
