Delhi: When Mayank Yadav bowled against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) last time, his speed shocked the batsmen. Experienced Australian batsmen like Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell also stumbled in front of their 150+ km per hour speed.
Now no speed
But after a year, Mayank’s speed has declined. After staying away from cricket for six months due to injury, he is now returning slowly. He says that the body will have to give time to get into the same rhythm again.
“Body needs time”
A day before the match against RCB at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium, Mayank said, “It is normal. I have gone through a big injury and stayed out of the game for about 5-6 months. The body will take time to reach that speed again. There has been no change in my bowling technique.”
Played two matches after returning to IPL
After the return, Mayank has played two IPL matches so far. In the first match, he dismissed Rohit Sharma on a slow ball against Mumbai Indians (MI), as well as the wicket of Hardik Pandya. He gave 40 runs in 4 overs. In the second match, Punjab Kings (PBKS) batsmen beat him a lot. In that match played in Dharamshala, he robbed 60 runs, in which Josh English also hit three consecutive sixes.
Batsman and pitch will have to understand fast
Mayank admitted that now he has to understand the batsmen and pitch beforehand. “There is no major change in my strategy. But now the body is taking some time, because after a long time I am coming under the pressure of the match. My intention and mindset is the same, now the wickets and batsmen need to be recognized quickly.”
Variation was already there, did not need
Mayank, who bowled the ball at a speed of 156.7 km/h last year, said that he already had slow balls and variations, but he was expected to bowl only fast in the last season. “I have been doing slow balls beforehand. But last year, only fast and hard lengths had to be put. This time the variation is working in view of the condition of the pitch.”
To contribute to the team
The 22 -year -old fast bowler said, “My aim is to contribute to the team. My bowling proved to be expensive in the last match, but whenever I bowl, the team feels that I am a wicket -taking bowler. I always try to be positive.”
