Delhi: Pakistan got a chance to host an ICC tournament after 29 years, but contrary to expectations, the team was out in the group stage, where the final of the Champions Trophy 2025 between India and New Zealand has been finalized, while there is still an atmosphere of despair in Pakistan. Former captain Mohammad Hafeez put the former cricketers in the dock over the poor performance of the team. Hafeez believes that the 90s veterans are also responsible for the current condition of Pakistan cricket, as they failed to inspire the new generation.
During the ‘Outside Edge Live Show’, Mohammad Hafeez questioned the legendary cricketers playing in the 90s. He said, “I have been a big fan of players who played in the 90s, but when it comes to their legacy, they did not give anything to Pakistan cricket. He did not win any ICC tournament. Loses in the World Cup of 1996, 1999 and 2003. We reached the final in 1999, but lost badly. ”
When Mohammad Hafeez was cursing the 90s veterans, Shoaib Akhtar, who was present in the show, retaliated on his words. Akhtar said, “Pakistan defeated India 73 times in ODI cricket, and all this happened in the same period when he used to play himself.”
Hafeez tried to handle his point by praising Imran Khan’s captaincy, but Shoaib Akhtar jokingly taunted, “Now you cannot hide your words, this video has been recorded and you have targeted all the big players of the 90s.”
After Pakistan’s poor performance, questions are being raised on the team, where Hafeez lashed the veterans, while Shoaib Akhtar did not take his statement lightly. Now it has to be seen what other former players respond to this dispute.
