Our problem is that they started comparing her (Prithvi Shaw) with a big player like Sachin so soon – Harbhajan Singh
Indian player Prithvi Shaw remained unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Prithvi was once a rising talent in Indian cricket, he made his debut for India at the age of 18 and created history by scoring a century. But then due to poor form and fitness, he started dropping.
Prithvi played his last match for India in July 2021 against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Shaw is currently playing for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. Meanwhile, former Indian bowler Harbhajan Singh has advised Prithvi to take inspiration from Virat Kohli in terms of fitness.
Harbhajan Singh said these things about Prithvi Shaw-
Harbhajan Singh said that he needs to take stock of whatever has happened to Prithvi and decide how he wants to take his career forward. Bhajji also feels that everyone made a mistake by comparing Shaw with Sachin Tendulkar in the early days of his career.
According to India Today, Harbhajan Singh said,
I don’t know what happened, but whatever happened, I think it’s something that Prithvi Shaw will have to take stock of and decide how to pursue his career going forward. Such things either make or break a career, and it is up to Shaw to decide which path he wants to take. It is very difficult for any player to digest that he remained unsold in the auction. And this is a player who people said was as talented as Tendulkar. Our problem is that they started comparing him with a big player like Sachin so soon. You put pressure on the player. But in the case of Prithvi Shaw, there are many more factors than just cricket.
Harbhajan also stressed that the young player needs to work a lot on his fitness and if he does so, he will go far.
I hope they emerge stronger from this setback. Work hard on their fitness, they are very young. Will be around 24-25 years old. If they pay attention to their fitness they can go far ahead. Because from what we saw of Prithvi Shaw and what we are seeing now – even in terms of size – he has clearly neglected his fitness. Whereas, if we look at the fitness of the players of Team India, it is visible on the field. If he has to take inspiration from anyone, make sure it is Virat Kohli. I wish Shaw all the best so that the next generation can also learn from him.
