Delhi: After the crushing 3-1 defeat against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, discussions have intensified regarding the Test career of captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Meanwhile, Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir has also expressed his opinion on the speculations about the retirement of Kohli and Rohit.

Questions on Kohli-Rohit’s performance

Virat Kohli’s performance in this series was very disappointing. He scored only 190 runs in 5 Test matches and was out on balls outside the off-stump 8 times. At the same time, Rohit Sharma did not participate in the Perth Test, because he was out of the team due to the birth of his second child. After this, he scored only 31 runs in 3 Tests and withdrew himself from the Sydney Test due to poor form.

Gambhir said, “I cannot comment on the future of any player. This is his personal decision. But, I believe that Rohit and Kohli still have the passion and hunger for the game. He will work to take Indian cricket forward and whatever decision he takes will be in the interest of the team.”

Justifying Rohit’s decision to withdraw from the Sydney Test, Gambhir said, “It is not wrong for a captain to take such a decision in the interest of the team. Rohit isolated himself due to poor form, which is a symbol of responsibility. The reports of differences in the dressing room are wrong. There is nothing above the team and country.”
