Delhi: Former explosive opener of the South African team, Harshrel Gibbs will lead the African Lions team at the Gibbs Intercontinental Legends Championship (ILC). The tournament will be played from 27 May to 5 June at Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida.
Talking about the team, franchise owner Krishna Shetty said in a press release of ILC, “We are very thrilled to welcome Herschelle Gibs to the African Lions. His huge experience, and leadership ability will not only strengthen our team, but will also inspire emerging players across Africa.”
Regarding the African Lions, ILC founder and director Gaurav Kamal said, “We are excited to welcome the African Lions. His participation will bring new energy and a strong legacy to the tournament, which will give fans to see the exciting performance and the continental boundaries of cricket.”
6 teams will participate in this tournament:
- African Lions
- Trans Titans (Australia and New Zealand)
- Euro gladiaters
- American strikers
- Asian kings
- Indian Warriors
All these teams represent six major regions of the world. Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina will command the Asian King team. The team consists of veteran players like former Sri Lankan opener Tillakaratne Dilshan and former Afghan captain Asghar Afghan.
The ILC will start from May 27 and its final match will be played on 5 June. Former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan will also be seen playing in this tournament. Players like Dilshan, former New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill will participate in this mega event. For former bowlers Praveen Kumar and Manpreet Goni for the Indian Warriors team.
