Delhi: Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has made a funny comment about facing Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Ponting made this statement recently after the first Test match between India and Australia played under the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). In that match, Bumrah, with his lethal bowling, gave India a big victory of 295 runs against Australia. In the absence of captain Rohit Sharma, Bumrah led the team and took a total of 8 wickets in the match.

Ricky Ponting’s funny reaction
When Ricky Ponting was asked in the ICC Review how he would face bowling like Bumrah, he laughed and said, “I would attack him with every ball, run down the wicket and hit the ball over his head.” However, Ponting immediately clarified that it was just a joke. Along with this, he also explained to the batsmen the importance of being active against the bowler and creating pressure.
Bumrah does not give chance to score runs
Ponting further said, “Jasprit Bumrah is so good because he does not give the batsmen a chance to score runs. But, big batsmen do that which forces the bowler to change his plan. I would have done the same – reacted to the ball and tried to score runs.”
What did Ponting say in praise of Bumrah?
The former Australian captain praised Bumrah’s captaincy and his bowling skills. He said, “Bumrah’s performance as captain was very important. He showed why he is the best fast bowler in the world in every format of the game. “His speed, line-length, ability to swing and the art of continuously targeting the stump have made him different from all other bowlers.”
Ponting also said that the consistency and lethality with which Bumrah bowled not only in the first innings but in the entire match, changed the course of the match. His bowling and mentality make him the best fast bowler not only in India but in the world.
