Delhi: The central government has taken a big decision on 9 May amid the increasing tension between India and Pakistan. The government has allowed the Indian Army to activate the Territorial Army (TA). This means that now the army chief can call the soldiers and officers of the Territorial Army if needed.

These soldiers can be deployed in necessary works like guard duty or can also be imposed directly with the regular army. This decision has been taken under Rule No. 33 of “Territorial Army Rules 1948”.

Dhoni is part of the Territorial Army

The Territorial Army also includes many well-known personalities. Among them are names like former Indian captain MS Dhoni, Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, Union Minister Anurag Thakur and Congress leader Sachin Sachin Pilot. Dhoni was associated with the Territorial Army in 2011. In 2019, he also did 15 days duty with Victor Force in Kashmir. He has been ranked of Honorary Lieutenant. Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra also became part of this force in 2011.

Pahalgam Attack and India’s retaliation

A few days ago, terrorists attacked in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 people lost their lives. It is being told that Pakistan -backed terrorists were behind the attack. After this, India retaliated and ran ‘Operation Sindoor’ on the night of 6 May. During this period, air strikes were carried out at 9 terrorist bases present in Pakistan.

What does the Territorial Army work?

According to the Ministry of Defense, the Territorial Army has a total of 32 infantry battalions. They are deployed in different military commands of the country such as Soutorn, Eastern, Western, Central, Northern and South Western Command. It is considered to be the second line of defense of the army. There are people who are ready to serve in the army, despite being ordinary citizens. They are trained from time to time so that they can protect the country if needed.
