In a significant move that will reshape the dynamics of the IPL, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a new rule under which players will face a two-year ban if they declare their unavailability after being selected in the auction. Will be imposed. The cricket world has welcomed this move, with former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan expressing his approval on the move.

Irfan Pathan praised BCCI

It is worth noting that, the IPL franchises were not happy with the unavailability of foreign players due to personal reasons before the start of the season. The franchisees had said that this also affects their performance. Because the team’s strategy has been made keeping those foreign players in mind.

Irfan Pathan wrote about this rule on his X account, “I have been talking about this for the last two years. Glad to see the decision taken by BCCI! Players who declare their unavailability after being selected in the auction will now be banned for two years. IPL is going from strength to strength in many ways.”

Decision to ban foreign players for two years

BCCI issued a press release on Saturday, September 28 regarding the IPL 2025 Grand Auction. In which information was given about 8 major decisions taken in the IPL Governing Council meeting.

Franchises will be able to retain 6 players before the big auction before IPL 2025. They can spend Rs 18 crore on one player. It was also said in these points that if a player deliberately does not register for the big auction, then he will not be included in the next small auction. This is because these players will not be able to participate in smaller auctions as per their convenience with the hope of getting a bigger amount.

The franchise had also informed the IPL Governing Council that several such incidents had taken place during the last two auctions (2018-24). When some foreign players were not available in the big auctions they got more money in the smaller auctions. After this he got huge amount in small auctions. Ishan Kishan got the highest bid in the big auction of 2022, Mumbai Indians bought him for Rs 15.25 crore. In the subsequent mini auction for 2024, Mitchell Starc was bought by KKR for Rs 24.75 crore and Pat Cummins was bought by SRH for Rs 20.50 crore.
