Delhi: Team India veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has finally broken the silence about his personal life. Chahal told what was the reason behind divorce from wife Dhanashree Verma and how he faced mental stress in this difficult time.

In 2020, cracks started coming after the third year in Chahal and Dhanashree’s wedding. Speaking to Raj Shamani on YouTube channel, Chahal said that he and Dhanashree hid the process of divorce until everything was decided.

Chahal kept silence on divorce

Chahal said, “We thought we will not say anything until the matter is over, we kept looking like a common couple on social media.”

When asked if he was showing everything false at that time, he shook his head and replied in ‘yes’.

The Indian spinner said that both of them had become so busy in their respective career that it became difficult to give each other time. Gradually the emotional distance increased.

He further explained, “The agreement is necessary in the relationship. If one ever gets angry, the other becomes silent. But, many times two people do not get the thinking and nature. I was playing for India and she was also busy with her work. That is why the distance came.”

Open talk on depression too

Chahal also said that when reports of divorce came out, many people maligned him as “cheater”, while he considers himself a very loyal person. He said, “Relationships for me are from the heart. I never cheated. People said a lot without knowing the truth, which broke me.”

He further explained that during this time he had a lot of trouble mentally. He had gone into depression and he started feeling like suicide.

Chahal said, “I used to cry for 2 hours every day. I used to sleep for only 2 hours. It walked for 40-45 days. I wanted a break from cricket. I was very afraid. I also told friends about my condition and suicide like thoughts.”

He also added that he has learned to respect women in his life from his parents and sisters. It is not right to add someone’s name or blow rumors just for views.
