Delhi: Nepal Under-19 captain Pooja Mahato recently expressed her respect for Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah after his brilliant performance against Malaysia in the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025.
Bumrah’s praise
Mahato performed all-round in the team’s last match against Malaysia and took 4 wickets in the first bowling. He reduced the Malaysian team to 45 runs by giving just 9 runs in 3.5 overs. After this, he scored 23* runs (in 32 balls) while batting and took his team to victory in 11 overs. At that time Nepal’s score was 22/3 in 6 overs.
After the victory, Mahato said, “My bowling idol is Jasprit Bumrah. I want to become Lady Bumrah, so I work hard like this. Being a captain, I have always thought that I have to contribute for my team and country.”
Mahato’s international career
Mahato has played 20 T20 International matches so far, in which he has taken 16 wickets. His average is 11.37 and economy rate is 3.87. Apart from this, he has scored 185 runs in 14 innings, in which his highest score is 59*.
Nepal’s team was in Group D along with Australia, Bangladesh and Scotland, where they had to face defeat in all the matches. But they ended the tournament with victory by defeating Malaysia in the fourth place play-off match.
