Delhi: Indian captain Rohit Sharma has “ruled himself out” of the deciding Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia in Sydney. After this, discussions regarding Rohit’s future in Test cricket have intensified. After his poor performance with the bat and this decision, speculations intensified that perhaps he might retire from Test cricket soon.
New captain for ODI also
Rohit retired from T20 cricket in June last year, after which Suryakumar Yadav was handed over the captaincy of the team. At the same time, in Test cricket, Jasprit Bumrah, who has led India to a spectacular victory in Perth, is now seen to be at the forefront of the race to become the new captain of this format. A period of change is going on in the team under the leadership of Team India coach Gautam Gambhir. In such a situation, BCCI has started considering the possibilities of a new captain for ODI cricket also.
Hardik Pandya can become the new captain of ODI
According to a report in MyKhel, if the selection committee reviews Rohit’s ODI captaincy or wants to reduce his burden, then Hardik Pandya can be made the new captain. A BCCI source said, “Hardik has the skill to handle the team in pressure matches. “His experience as an all-rounder and captain makes him suitable for ICC tournaments like the Champions Trophy.”
The source said, “Gill still needs to improve as a leader, and Suryakumar’s ODI performances have not been special. In such a situation, if Rohit is not available, then Hardik will be the best choice to become the captain of the ODI team.
