Delhi: KL Rahul had given balance to the Indian team by keeping wickets in the 2023 World Cup, but it seems that he will not play this role in the Champions Trophy. The selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar has almost taken the decision regarding the backup player for Rishabh Pant.

India and Pakistan have not yet announced their teams for the Champions Trophy. The remaining six teams had sent their provisional squads by the deadline of January 12, but India has sought an extension from the ICC.

Selection committee meeting will be held on January 19

According to a PTI report, the selection committee will select a 15-member provisional team after the Vijay Hazare Trophy final on January 19. At present, the discussion is going on regarding the position of wicketkeeper.

While most of the experts were talking about seeing Rahul in the role of wicketkeeper, the report suggests that Pant is decided as the first option. The competition for backup is between Dhruv Jurel, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan.

Who is the backup in Samson, Jurel, Kishan?

Recently, Jurel was added as Samson’s backup in the home T20 series against England. In such a situation, he is at the forefront of the race for backup wicketkeeper. At the same time, Samson may be out of this race due to not playing in Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Ishan Kishan, who has scored a double century in ODIs, could not win the trust of the selectors this time due to his average performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He scored only 316 runs in 7 matches, which included one century.

The report also says that Jurel is being groomed as Pant’s backup in Tests and ODIs, while Samson will get a chance in T20.
