Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has launched an important initiative on Sunday, under which a special task force for women cricketers of Afghanistan has been formed. In this commendable step, the Cricket Board of India, England and Australia has also collaborated with the ICC.

The purpose of this initiative is not only to groom the cricket career of women players, but also to empower them personally. A fund will be prepared for their financial support, so that these players can move forward in their favorite sport.

Under this new policy of ICC, Afghan women cricketers will be provided mentoring for advanced training, modern resources and skill development. ICC chairman Jai Shah has also expressed happiness about this initiative.

Jai Shah said, “Our team is committed to ensuring that every cricketer gets an opportunity to succeed, whatever the situation is. We are feeling proud by forming this task force and fund with the cooperation of our partners. We want to give Afghan women players full opportunity to move forward through this high-performance program.”

Significantly, after the arrival of the Taliban rule, many activities including women’s education and sports were banned in Afghanistan. Major countries like England and Australia also refused to play with Afghanistan’s men’s team citing women’s rights. Now it will be seen to see what change this policy of ICC brings.
