Delhi: Jai Shah, president of the International Cricket Council (ICC), has said that he is confident that two big women tournaments, 2025 women’s ODIs and 2026 Women T20 World Cup, will bring the pace in women’s cricket to new heights in recent years. He said this after the ICC announced the dates, sites and knockout schedule of both tournaments on Monday.
The 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup will be held in India and Sri Lanka between September 30 to November 2. In comparison, they will be played in Bengaluru, Guwahati, Indore, Visakhapatnam and Colombo. India will play the inaugural match of this tournament in Bengaluru. India, Australia (current champions), England, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan will participate in the tournament. The knockout phase site is laid flexible, which includes Colombo as a neutral site for Pakistan’s matches. If Pakistan reaches the semi -finals or finals, Colombo will host those matches.
At the same time, 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup will be held in England from 12 June to 5 July. Its matches will be played at Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Southampton, Bristol, The Oval and Lords.
Jai Shah said that women’s cricket is an important part of our vision and the ICC is confident that these tournaments will make the game more popular.
