Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) released its latest ODI and T20 rankings on Wednesday, in which Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has once again achieved the number-1 rank. Shaheen climbed three places and captured the top position, leaving behind South African spinner Keshav Maharaj. The left-arm pacer recently performed brilliantly against Australia, taking 8 wickets at an average of 12.62 in three ODIs. He was also successful in achieving number-1 ranking during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
Klaasen did a feat which no South African batsman could do.
Apart from Shaheen, Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf also jumped 14 places and reached 13th position. He won the Player of the Series award by taking 10 wickets against Australia. At the same time, Naseem Shah has also achieved career best rating and has climbed 14 places to 55th position.
Pakistan’s Babar Azam remains at the first position in the ranking of ODI batsmen. Babar scored 80 runs against Australia and was out once in three matches. Pakistan created history by winning the ODI series against Australia on their own soil after 22 years.
Sanju Samson got the benefit
At the same time, India’s star wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson made a spectacular jump of 27 places in the T20 batting rankings and reached 39th position. Samson scored a century in the first match of the ongoing T20 series against South Africa, but was out for zero in the second match.
Among T20 bowlers, Wanindu Hasaranga jumped four places to reach second position, while India’s Ravi Bishnoi gained one place to seventh position.
FAQ
When are ICC rankings updated?
The women’s player rankings for both ODIs and T20Is are updated every Tuesday, while the men’s rankings across all three formats of Test, ODIs and T20Is are updated on Wednesdays.
How are ICC rankings calculated?
This rating is calculated by dividing the points obtained by the total points of the match/series, which is rounded to the nearest whole number. It is comparable to batting average, but uses points rather than total runs and total points for a match/series rather than the number of dismissals.
