Delhi: Pakistan is not taking the name of ending difficulties in the ODI format for the cricket team. A month after the Champions Trophy 2025 suffered an embarrassing defeat in the Group Stage at home ground, now he also lost in the ODI series against New Zealand. With the defeat in the second ODI on Wednesday, Pakistan lagged behind 0-2 in this three-match series. The next day of the defeat, the ICC imposed a fine on the team.
Pakistani team punished at slow over speed
In the second ODI played against New Zealand in Hamilton, the Pakistani team captained by Mohammad Rizwan could not throw the entire over in the scheduled time. Due to this, he had to pay a fine of five percent match fees under the ICC rules. Pakistan’s team was left behind by one over in the stipulated time.
Under Article 2.22 of the ICC’s Code of Conduct, if a team does not throw the entire over in the scheduled time, then the players’ match fees are deducted as a five percent penalty for the lack of each over. This sentence was imposed by the match referee Jeff Crowe of Emirates ICC Elite Panel.
A fine was also imposed in the first match
This fine has not been imposed on Pakistan for the first time. In the first ODI of this series, the team was left behind in two overs in the scheduled time, due to which they had to face a similar sentence. Pakistan lost by 73 runs in that match.
Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan accepted the mistake, which led to no official hearing. He was accused by on-field umpire Michael Gough and Wayne Nights, third umpire Paul Refel and fourth umpire Chris Brown.
Pakistan’s difficulties increased
Pakistan’s difficulties are constantly increasing on this tour. The team also lost 1-4 in the five-match T20 series. The tour has proved to be very challenging for Salman Aga, who is doing a new captaincy in the absence of veteran players Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.
Now the third and last ODI between Pakistan and New Zealand will be played in Mount Munganui on Saturday, where Pakistan will land to save its credibility.
