Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is once again demanding to hand over the Test captaincy to Virat Kohli for the tour of England, where on the one hand there is speculation that Shubman Gill can be made the captain of the future of India in the Test format, while former England captain Michael Won has suggested a separate strategy.

According to Vaughan, Gill should be allowed to remain vice -captain and Kohli should take command of the team in the series against England. Michael wrote on the social media platform X (first Twitter), “If I had been in India, I would have made Virat captain for the England Test series. Shubman Gill could be his vice -captain for this tour.”

Von’s comment has rejoined the discussions about Kohli’s possible captaincy withdrawal, especially at a time when India is preparing for a big foreign tour.

PTI quoted a BCCI source as saying, “It is true that the selectors thought of making Kohli a captain for the England series. This could have given Gill time to enhance himself in the role of leadership, but at the age of 25, he has not yet reached his peak. He is worried about Bumrah’s fitness, so Gill Ajit is a natural option for the selection committee.”

Meanwhile, a report by the Times of India claimed that Kohli himself had demanded a Test captaincy from BCCI, but the board rejected the request, as they want to hand over the command of the team to a young player, especially Gill.

The report quoted a source as saying, “The new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle is starting. Decisions are being taken keeping in mind the future and stability of the team. Coach Gautam Gambhir will also want to work with the same players with whom he can work for a long time. No immediate solution cannot be done for such an important series. No immediate solution is not very important for the previous two series and the previous two series are not ideal for the previous two series.
